It’s difficult to choose between Medterra and Charlotte’s Web because they’re both top-tier CBD companies. That’s why I tested their products for several weeks and compared the prices, product variety, and other criteria.

Medterra is the better option if you’re on a budget or looking for CBG or CBN products. Meanwhile, Charlotte’s Web’s wins in the hemp source department, product quality, and reputation.

Keep reading for a detailed comparison of Medterra vs. Charlotte’s Web.

Summary

I’d pick Charlotte’s Web over Medterra. But if price is a concern, Medterra offers better value for your money.

4.3/5

Product Efficacy

Products I received and tested from both brands.

With Medterra, I tested the 2000 mg citrus broad-spectrum CBD oil, broad-spectrum capsules, good morning capsules, and fast-asleep gummies. Except for the gummies, I was happy with the effects, which included relaxation, energy, and calm.

For Charlotte’s Web, I tried out the the 60 mg/ml organic full-spectrum CBD oil, CBD cream, back and neck pain relief ointment, and recovery gummies. I felt potent relaxation, calm, cooling relief, and other effects.

Overall, I found Charlotte’s Web products a tad more effective than Medterra.

CBD Glossary

  • Hemp: cannabis variety with high CBD and low THC levels (no more than 0.3%).
  • Terpenes: aromatic plant compounds with various beneficial properties (1).
  • Minor cannabinoids: CBN, CBG, CBC, and other beneficial cannabinoids found in smaller amounts in hemp. They may work in synergy with CBD.
  • Full-spectrum: whole-plant hemp extract containing multiple cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. This form of CBD is about four times more potent than pure CBD (2).
  • Broad-spectrum: whole-plant hemp extract similar to full-spectrum CBD, but with THC removed (may contain trace amounts).
  • CBD isolate: pure CBD without any other hemp compounds.

Although both companies have a wide variety of CBD products and strengths, Medterra offers more options. In particular, it sells formulas with CBN and CBG, two popular minor cannabinoids that provide somewhat different effects of CBD.

But we should mention that Charlotte’s Web offers several USDA-cerified organic products, which are lacking from Medterra.

Winner: Medterra

Price & Value

The easiest way to compare the value you’re getting with CBD products is to divide the total price by the amount of CBD. For example, if you have a 1500 mg CBD oil that costs $100, its price per milligram (mg) of CBD would be 100/1500 = $0.07 or 7 cents. The prices also vary depending on the type of product.

Here’s a comparison of how much you’re paying per mg of CBD for the main product categories with Medterra vs. Charlotte’s Web:

Price per mg CBDMedterraCharlotte’s Web
CBD oil3-7 cents5-12 cents
Capsules4-7 cents8-9 cents
Gummies6-10 cents9-20 cents
Topicals4-6 cents5-15 cents
Pet products6-10 cents9-27 cents

Medterra’s prices are clearly much cheaper. If you’re looking to save money on effective CBD products, Medterra is the better pick.

Hemp Source & Production Process

Both Medterra and Charlotte’s Web use American hemp to make their products and are certified by the US Hemp Authority, which is awarded to brands that follow the hemp industry’s best practices.

But Charlotte’s Web is more impressive because:

  • It uses its own proprietary hemp genetics
  • Its hemp is certified organic by the USDA
  • It’s vertically integrated so it controls every step of the production process
Winner: Charlotte’s Web

Third-Party Testing

Both Medterra and Charlotte’s Web send their products for comprehensive third-party testing. The tests show the levels of cannabinoids and check for contaminants.

But there’s one problem with Charlotte’s Web: you can only access the latest certificate of analysis (CoA) documents with the number found on the product box. So unless you’re buying CW products at a store, you won’t be able to check the test reports until after you buy the product.

That’s a major downside since you can’t check what’s inside the product before purchasing. Additionally, some Medterra products show higher minor cannabinoid levels on the test results than Charlotte’s Web, which means they may be more effective.

Winner: Medterra

Reputation

While Medterra is a trustworthy brand with thousands of satisfied customer reviews, its reputation doesn’t quite match up to Charlotte’s Web.

Charlotte’s Web is one of the pioneers of the American CBD industry. The company’s story goes all the way back to 2011 when the seven Stanley brothers used a proprietary strain of hemp to help a little girl with severe seizures.

This brought more attention to CBD and played an important role in its use and acceptance.

The Verdict: Charlotte’s Web is Better Overall But Medterra Offers Better Value

All things considered, I’d choose Charlotte’s Web over Medterra. I experienced stronger effects from its products and like that Charlotte’s Web does everything in-house and uses USDA-certified organic hemp.

Having said that, Charlotte’s Web products are a tad pricey. That’s why Medterra is the better option for those who want the best value for their money. It’s also the better choice if you’re looking for CBN or CBG products.
