Receptra CBD Overview
Previously known as Receptra Naturals, Receptra is a Colorado-based CBD vendor. It was established in 2015 by Rusty Scott from Denver, who turned to CBD to relieve his knee pain after an accident.
Receptra is a relatively small brand that oversees every step of the production process, from growing hemp on a local organic farm to extracting it and making the end products.
That may explain why its full-spectrum products are of high quality and rich in minor cannabinoids and terpenes.
CBD Terminology
- Hemp: cannabis variety with high CBD and low THC levels (no more than 0.3%).
- Terpenes: aromatic plant compounds with various beneficial properties (1).
- Minor cannabinoids: CBN, CBG, CBC, and other beneficial cannabinoids found in smaller amounts in hemp. They may work in synergy with CBD.
- Full-spectrum: whole-plant hemp extract containing multiple cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. This form of CBD may be about 4 times more potent than pure CBD (2).
- Broad-spectrum: whole-plant hemp extract similar to full-spectrum CBD, but with THC removed (may contain trace amounts).
- CBD isolate: pure CBD with all other hemp compounds removed.
Receptra CBD Product Lineup
Receptra sells full-spectrum CBD oil, gummies, and topicals in multiple formulas designed for goals like wellness, sleep, and relief. A few products are also available in a THC-free (broad-spectrum) variety.

For this review, I tried out Receptra’s serious relief CBD oil as well as serious rest and serious relax gummies. You can see my thoughts below.
CBD Oil

CBD Potency | 25-66 mg/ml |
Volume | 15-60 ml |
Total CBD | 375-4000 mg |
Cost per mg CBD | $0.07–0.11 |
Type | Full-spectrum |

Receptra’s full-spectrum CBD oils come in four varieties:
- Serious wellness, a fresh berry-flavored 50 mg/ml (high-potency) tincture
- Seriously relax, a vanilla mint-flavored 25 mg/ml (medium-strength) oil added lavender, passionflower, and limonene to promote a sense calm
- Serious rest, a ginger lime-flavored 25 mg/ml oil with added linalool, valerian, and chamomile to promote sleep
- Serious relief, a fresh berry-flavored 33-66 mg/ml tincture with added turmeric for inflammation and aches relief (also available in 0% THC version)
These tinctures have high levels of not only minor cannabinoids (~16%) but also terpenes, making them more potent and effective.
My experience: I chose the serious relief tincture because it had the most interesting formula. I took a full dropper (33 mg CBD) when I was sore from working out and noticed minor relief within 40 minutes but had stronger effects from taking 2 full droppers (66 mg). The berry taste was pleasant.
CBD Gummies
The gummies come in the same three varieties as the oils but with slightly different ingredients.

These mountain strawberry-flavored vegan gummies are made with natural and organic ingredients. They combine 25 mg CBD with 3 mg of cannabinol (CBN), the minor cannabinoid touted for supporting sleep and relaxation.
I also appreciate that Receptra didn’t add melatonin because it doesn’t work for everyone and can cause side effects. But the third-party test report is strange; I think they mistakenly added the test for the pure CBN isolate they blended into this full-spectrum product.
My experience: I took 4 gummies an hour before bedtime. The taste was delicious. I did sleep better but also noticed some psychoactive effects, so people sensitive to THC shouldn’t take too many gummies at a time. I’m not a fan of melatonin so these gummies are great for me.
Serious Relax Gummies

Potency | 28 mg |
Gummy Count | 30 |
Total cannabinoids | 840 mg |
Cost per mg | $0.05 |

These cherry lime-flavored gummies are made with the same quality ingredients and contain 25 mg CBD with 3 mg of cannabigerol (CBG), a minor cannabinoid included in products for improving focus, mood, and energy.
My experience: I ate 3 gummies during the day. The strawberry taste was nice but I’d prefer less sugar. As for the effects, I did feel more relaxed and upbeat after about an hour, with subtle effects lasting for several hours.

Receptra’s capsules come in two formulas inspired by the oils:

Again, third-party tests show impressive minor cannabinoid amounts (15%), which is always great to see.

This body oil is infused with arnica oil, camphor, jojoba, and other beneficial ingredients that help you relax and recover. I’d like to see higher CBD content; also, the third-party tests didn’t find any THC or many other minor cannabinoids.

These peanut butter bacon-flavored chews are infused with wild Alaskan salmon oil. But the third-party tests only found CBD; full-spectrum products should carry THC and other cannabinoids.
Price & Value
The easiest way to compare the value of CBD products is to divide the total cost by the amount of CBD. For example, if you have a 1500 mg CBD oil that costs $100, its price per milligram (mg) of CBD would be 100/1500 = 7 cents.
You also have to consider that the prices vary by product type. Here’s what the prices look like for Receptra:
- CBD oil: 7 to 11 cents per mg of CBD
- Capsules: 9 cents per mg
- Gummies: 5 to 7 cents per mg
- Topicals: 9 to 18 cents per mg
- Pet products: 9 to 15 cents per mg
Except for the gummies, these prices are fairly average. But you’re still getting good value with Receptra because its products are made with quality full-spectrum extract, making them more potent and effective.
There’s also a 50% discount for veterans and active members of the military.
Hemp Source and Production Process
As a vertically integrated company, Receptra oversees every step of the production process. The company grows organic hemp on a family farm in Colorado, which is then harvested, dried, and hand-shucked to remove the stems and stalks.
The hemp flower is then extracted with cold ethanol, one of the most common methods of CBD extraction. The resulting extract is refined and combined with other botanical ingredients to make Receptra’s products.
Third-Party Testing
Receptra’s products are independently tested by Pacific Botanical Laboratories, a cannabis & hemp testing lab. The tests are comprehensive, including both potency (levels of cannabinoids and even terpenes) and contaminants.
Third-Party Test Results
I always look at third-party lab test results to confirm that CBD companies sell safe, accurate, and effective products. Specifically, I check for:
- The levels of CBD, which should be within 10% of the label (3)
- The levels of minor cannabinoids like CBG and CBC
- The levels of THC
- Whether the CBD type (full, broad-spectrum, or isolate) is accurate
- Whether there are any contaminants
The latest test reports for Receptra Naturals’ products show exceptionally high levels of minor cannabinoids (~15%). Many products also contain significant amounts of terpenes — another great result for a high-quality full-spectrum product.
I only found a couple of small issues, like two products without THC and low levels of minor cannabinoids.

I added two screenshots of third-party test documents to give you a sense of what you’re getting with Receptra:
- The 3000 mg wellness CBD oil test shows 46.6 mg CBD per ml, which is only 7% less than the label. The tests also show 16.5% minor cannabinoids, an exceptionally high amount, as well as 5 different terpenes. These are impressive results.
- The 33 mg relief gummies test shows 7.62 mg CBD per gram, or 30.5 mg per gummy, which is only 8% less than advertised. Again, the tests show impressive minor cannabinoid amounts (14.5%).
Overall, the test results suggest that you’re getting accurate, high-quality full-spectrum CBD products.
Shipping & Returns
Receptra delivers throughout the US with free shipping on orders above $75. You can request a refund or replacement within 30 days of purchase if you’re not satisfied.
Customer Service & Reputation
Receptra is a fairly small CBD company but has all the signs of a reputable vendor. The customer reviews on its website are positive and highlight the effectiveness of Receptra’s products, especially compared to other CBD brands.
It also runs a philanthropic initiative called Receptra Gives by partnering with social, animal, and environmental organizations like the Herogrown Foundation.
The Verdict: Exceptional Whole-Plant CBD
Receptra is a great brand to choose if you don’t mind paying a little more for high-quality, effective CBD products. While its prices are considered average for the CBD industry, the products themselves are anything but.
I noticed potent effects from the oil and gummies I tried and appreciated the use of natural ingredients. That’s not surprising since Receptra’s third-party tests show impressive amounts of minor cannabinoids and terpenes, which work in synergy with CBD to produce greater effects and benefits.
There were only a few minor issues I found, like two product tests not finding any THC (which should be present in full-spectrum products).
