Level Select Overview
Level Select CBD was founded in 2019 in Newport, CA. The company’s name refers to three levels of CBD strength available for many of its items.
Level Select provides CBD products for sports enthusiasts, with a particular focus on topicals like creams and roll-ons. Since most professional sports don’t allow athletes to use THC, Level Select’s products are all made with 0% THC broad-spectrum hemp extract.
Level Select is backed by a former US Surgeon General and several current and retired pro athletes. Like most legit CBD brands, Level Select also provides third-party test reports of its products.
CBD Glossary
- Hemp: cannabis variety with high CBD and low THC levels (no more than 0.3%).
- Terpenes: aromatic plant compounds with various beneficial effects (1).
- Minor cannabinoids: CBN, CBG, CBC, and other beneficial cannabinoids found in smaller amounts in hemp. They work in synergy with CBD.
- Full-spectrum: whole-plant hemp extract containing multiple cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. This form of CBD is about four times more potent than pure CBD (2).
- Broad-spectrum: whole-plant hemp extract similar to full-spectrum CBD, but with THC removed (may contain trace amounts).
- CBD isolate: pure CBD without any other hemp compounds.
Level Select Product Lineup
Level Select has a solid variety of broad-spectrum (0.0% THC) products, most of which are marketed towards sports enthusiasts. They include sports creams, roll-ons, sprays, patches, oils, and gummies available in multiple strength levels (low, medium, and high).
CBD Topicals
Level Select’s topicals are its main product line because they’re well-suited for providing targeted muscle and joint relief for active individuals.

These creams are Level Select’s most popular product. They contain broad-spectrum CBD mixed with other soothing ingredients like menthol and arnica. You can choose from three strength levels and two container sizes.
While I like the formula, the third-party tests only show CBD, which looks more like isolate than broad-spectrum extract.
Sports Roll-on
CBD Potency | 12-24 mg/ml |
Volume | ~75 ml (2.5oz) |
Total CBD | 900-1800 mg |
Cost per mg CBD | $0.03 |

This roll-on easily fits into a gym bag and is intended to be used on the go. Like the cream, it includes ingredients like menthol and arnica and comes in three strength levels. Third-party tests show about 8.1% minor cannabinoids, which is a great result for a broad-spectrum product.

These high-strength patches combine CBD with the popular topical pain relievers menthol and camphor. They’re also among the cheapest CBD patches on the market.

Level Select’s daily drop CBD oils come in three varieties:
- Standard CBD oil (mint flavor)
- 30 ml bottle of CBD oil in cinnamon or citrus flavor
- Level Z CBD oil with added melatonin to promote sleep (vanilla flavor)
I like the high strengths and low price. However, the third-party tests only found one terpene, which is a poor result for broad-spectrum CBD extract.
Level Select CBD Gummies
CBD Potency | 12.5 mg |
Gummy Count | 10-60 |
Total CBD | 125-750 mg |
Cost per mg CBD | $0.07-0.08 |

Level Select offers CBD gummies with three different formulas in regular or trial sizes. All contain the same 12.5 mg of broad-spectrum CBD but with different flavors and added ingredients:
- The immune support formula is citrus-flavored and is infused with vitamin C and turmeric
- The restful sleep formula is berry-flavored and is infused with melatonin and lemon balm
- The focused energy is tropical-flavored and contains caffeine and ginseng
I like these specialized formulas, but the third-party tests only show CBD. Other minor cannabinoids should be present in a broad-spectrum product.
Price & Value
The best way to assess the value of a CBD product is to divide the cost by the total amount of CBD in milligrams (mg).
Keep in mind that the price varies for different types of products. Here are the prices offered by Level Select:
- CBD topicals: 3-9 cents per mg for CBD topicals
- CBD oil: 3-4 cents per mg for CBD oil
- CBD gummies: 7-8 cents per mg for gummies
This puts Level Select below the average price for these product categories. On top of that, you can get a further 30-35% off by subscribing for monthly deliveries with free shipping.
All in all, Level Select CBD offers good value.
Hemp Source and Production Process
Unfortunately, Level Select doesn’t disclose much information in terms of its hemp source or production process. This isn’t the most concerning issue, though it does matter. Hemp origin is a large factor in the quality of the products and a sign of a transparent brand.
From their website, we can gather that the hemp they use is grown in the USA. The production is also claimed to be cruelty-free. But exact details are not available.
Third-Party Testing
Level Select’s products are sent to reputable labs like Green Scientific Labs and Kaycha for third-party testing.
They’re tested for cannabinoid potency, the usual list of possible contaminants, and, in some cases, terpene potency. The latest test results are posted on a dedicated page.
Third-Party Test Results
I always look at third-party lab test results to confirm that CBD companies sell safe, accurate, and effective products. Specifically, I check for:
- The levels of CBD, which should be within 10% of the label (3)
- The levels of minor cannabinoids like CBG (quality full-spectrum products should have at least 10%)
- The levels of THC
- Whether the CBD type (full, broad-spectrum, or isolate) is accurate
- Whether there are any contaminants
The third-party tests for Level Select show mostly good results. They’re tested for potency and various possible contaminants, which is great.
Most products are accurate and contain the advertised broad-spectrum CBD. However, a few products seem to contain only pure CBD isolate.
I added three third-party certificates of analysis (CoAs) above for a more detailed explanation:
- The level three roll-on CoA shows a great result of 1883 mg of CBD, which is only 5% higher than the labeled 1800 mg. The test also found 8% minor cannabinoids, which is a good result for a broad-spectrum product.
- The level three cream CoA shows 2022 mg of CBD, which is 12% higher. That’s a bit over our 10% threshold, but it’s still a solid result. But there weren’t any minor cannabinoids found.
- The level 3 CBD oil CoA found 5615 mg CBD vs. the advertised 5000 mg, which is 12% higher. Again, it was a bit off the mark, but not a bad result. The test also showed ~5% minor cannabinoids, which is good for a broad-spectrum product. But the test only found one terpene, which is a bit disappointing.
Overall, the only major issue with Level Select’s third-party test results is that some products contain purified CBD rather than the advertised broad-spectrum hemp extract.
Shipping & Returns
Level Select CBD offers free shipping on orders over $60 (and subscription orders). You can return unused products within 30 days of delivery for a full refund.
Customer Service & Reputation
Level Select CBD is not the most transparent or well-known brand. Getting more details about its founders and mission would be nice. Right now, it feels like another generic CBD brand.
That said, its customers seem satisfied, based on the hundreds of reviews on the website.
My Verdict: Decent Choice for THC-Free CBD
Level Select is a solid CBD brand for active individuals. All products contain 0.0% THC, which is great for competitive athletes who get drug tested.
They’re available in three strength levels so that you can match your needs to the right potency. The product variety is also solid, and I like the low price point for most items.
However, Level Select does have some areas to work on. For one, it claims to use broad-spectrum CBD for all products, but the tests for some products only show CBD.
It’s also lacking transparency about its backstory and production process (like where its hemp is sourced).
