Overall Rating: 3.7/5

Products 4.5/5
Level Select offers a variety of CBD products with different strengths and formulations. The only major thing missing is CBD capsules.
Price & Value 4/5
Level Select’s prices are below the market average, especially for CBD oil. Plus, you get 35% off for subscribing and free shipping.
Hemp Quality 2/5
While we like the badges telling us that the company’s hemp is USA-grown, we want more information. Is it organic? Which state is it cultivated in?
Third-Party Testing 4/5
Level Select uses a reputable testing lab and provides complete purity and potency test reports (including both cannabinoid and terpene levels). But the levels of minor cannabinoids are low in most products.
Customer Service & Reputation 4/5
Level Select is a fairly new brand with few customer reviews. It needs more time to establish itself. Still, the reviews it has so far are positive.

Level Select Overview

Level Select CBD was founded in 2019 in Newport, CA. It primarily focuses on products for athletes.

The current lineup consists of CBD creams, roll-ons, oils, gummies, teas, and pet products. Most of these are available in 3 “levels” (CBD strengths), giving you the option to choose the right product and potency for your needs.

Level Select is backed by a former US Surgeon General and several current and retired pro athletes. Complete third-party test results are also available on the website, although it doesn’t provide information on where it sources its hemp from.

CBD Terminology

  • Hemp: cannabis variety with high CBD and low THC levels (no more than 0.3%).
  • Terpenes: aromatic plant compounds with various beneficial properties (1).
  • Minor cannabinoids: CBN, CBG, CBC, and other beneficial cannabinoids found in smaller amounts in hemp. They may work in synergy with CBD.
  • Full-spectrum: whole-plant hemp extract containing multiple cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. This form of CBD is about four times more potent than pure CBD (2).
  • Broad-spectrum: whole-plant hemp extract similar to full-spectrum CBD, but with THC removed (may contain trace amounts).
  • CBD isolate: pure CBD without any other hemp compounds.

Level Select Product Lineup

Level Select has a solid variety of broad-spectrum (0.0% THC) products, most of which are marketed towards athletes. They include sports creams, roll-ons, and oils available in 3 strength levels (low, medium, and high), as well as gummies, teas, and pet products. Read on for our reviews below.

CBD Topicals

Level Select’s topicals are its main product line because they’re well-suited for providing targeted muscle and joint relief for active individuals. They include 3 levels of creams and roll-ons.

The Sports Creams are Level Select’s most popular products. They work similarly to something like IcyHot or Bengay. These products contain broad-spectrum CBD mixed with menthol for its reliable cooling, relieving effects.

They come in three levels (strengths). We like this product but prefer the CBD strengths to be higher.

Level Select Sports Roll-on

The Sports Roll-ons from Level Select easily fit into a gym bag and are intended to be used on the go.  Like the cream, it comes in 3 different levels, but the overall weight is reduced, increasing the CBD concentration. They also include menthol and mint, adding soothing relief and a pleasant scent.

Level Select also provides standard CBD oil with 2 sizes (30-60 ml) and 3 strength levels, a sleep version, and multiple flavors.

The standard oil comes in unflavored or mint flavoring, with vanilla flavor for the sleep formula, appropriately named Level Zzz. The Level Zzz drops are also infused with melatonin to promote sleep.

We like the potencies and the low prices of these CBD oils. They also contain a wide variety of terpenes. But they have very low levels of minor cannabinoids.

Level Select offers CBD gummies with 3 different formulas in regular or trial sizes. All contain the same 25 mg of broad-spectrum CBD but have different flavors and additional ingredients:

  • The Immune Support formula is citrus-flavored and is infused with vitamin C and turmeric
  • The Restful Sleep formula is berry-flavored and is infused with melatonin and lemon balm
  • The Focused Energy is tropical-flavored and contains caffeine and ginseng.

We like these specialized formulas but the third-party tests only show CBD in these gummies. Other minor cannabinoids should be present in a broad-spectrum hemp product.

Somewhat unique to Level Select is the range of tea products infused with CBD. These products are to be used just like normal tea bags but with 15 mg of CBD in each. There are 4 tea types to choose from.

Naturally, chamomile is being promoted for sleep, green tea for focus, English breakfast for the morning, and earl grey for a pick-me-up.

Pet

These pet CBD products are offered under the brand Purity Preferred, which is owned by the same company as Level Select.

Pet Calming and Hip & Joint CBD Drops

Level Select offers two different pet oil formulas, Calming and Hip & Joint. The Calming oil drops are available in 4 potency levels: small dogs and cats, medium dogs, large, and extra-large dog breeds.

Meanwhile, the Hip & Joint formula is available in 3 levels. The drops come in bacon and chicken flavors that your pets will likely enjoy.

Both oils also contain moringa, krill oil, and copaiba, which have a variety of potential benefits. But we don’t see any different ingredients between the two formulas.

In addition to the drops, Level Select also provides its Hip & Joint formula as a roll-on application for pets. You’ll find all of the standard balm ingredients plus 200 or 400 mg of CBD and moringa.

Price & Value

CBD products can easily be assessed for value by dividing the cost by the total amount of CBD in milligrams (mg). This offers a look at exactly how much a milligram of CBD is going to cost, and can help you determine whether or not the price point is worth it.

Keep in mind that the price varies for different types of products. Here are the prices offered by Level Select:

  • $0.05-0.13 per mg for CBD topicals
  • $0.02-0.03 per mg for CBD oil
  • $0.07 per mg for gummies
  • $0.09 per mg for tea
  • $0.09-0.70 per mg for pet products

This puts Level Select below most of the market averages for CBD products, particularly for CBD oil. On top of that, you can get a further 35% off by subscribing for monthly deliveries and the shipping is always free.

All in all, Level Select CBD offers great value.

Hemp Source and Production Process

Unfortunately, Level Select doesn’t disclose much information in terms of its hemp source or production process. This isn’t the most concerning issue, though it does matter. Hemp origin is a large factor in the quality of the products and a sign of a transparent brand.

From their website, we can gather that the hemp they use is grown in the USA. The production is also claimed to be cruelty-free. But exact details are not available.

Third-Party Testing

Level Select’s products are sent for third-party testing to Green Scientific Labs, a reputable lab in Florida.

They’re tested for cannabinoid and terpene potency, as well as pesticides, heavy metals, residual solvents, and other potential contaminants. All products come with a batch number that corresponds to the online test results, although the pet and tea product tests are found on separate websites.

Third-Party Test Results

I always look at third-party lab test results to confirm that CBD companies sell safe, accurate, and effective products. Specifically, I check for:

  • The levels of CBD, which should be within 10% of the label (3)
  • The levels of minor cannabinoids like CBG (quality full-spectrum products should have at least 10%)
  • The levels of THC
  • Whether the CBD type (full, broad-spectrum, or isolate) is accurate
  • Whether there are any contaminants

We added the latest third-party test reports for three Level Select products above:

  1. The level 3 roll-on, which should have 1200 mg CBD and actually contained 1263 mg, which is 5% more
  2. The level 3 cream, which should also provide 1200 mg CBD but had 1661 mg on the test, which is 38.4% more
  3. The level 3 CBD oil, which should have 5000 mg of CBD and showed 5234 mg on the tests, which is 5% higher

The cream clearly contains much more CBD than advertised. But the other two products were well within the 10% variance we expect from an accurate CBD product. It’s also great that all three tests show plenty of terpenes.

The only major issue is that all three test reports (and many other ones we looked at) show low levels of minor cannabinoids. Proper broad-spectrum CBD products should contain significantly more.

Shipping & Returns

Level Select CBD offers free shipping throughout the U.S. It also ships to anywhere in the world, though some products may have shipping restrictions. This information can be found during the checkout process, as we don’t see it listed on the website anywhere.

You can return unused products within 30 days of delivery for a full refund.

Customer Service & Reputation

Level Select CBD is a relatively new brand so it doesn’t have an established reputation.

But its customers seem satisfied, based on the minimal reviews found on the website. Nearly all products that have been reviewed have a rating of at least 4.5 stars, if not 5.

Our Verdict: Decent Choice for Fitness Enthusiasts

Level Select is a solid CBD brand for active individuals. All products contain 0.0% THC, which is great for competitive athletes that get drug tested. They’re available in three strength levels so you can match your needs to the right one.

The products are also at a great price point, especially with the subscription and free shipping deals, and come in a wide variety of options.

But Level Select does have two major areas to work on. First and foremost, the levels of minor cannabinoids in most of the products are very low. That’s important since these cannabinoids work in synergy, enhancing the effects of CBD and terpenes.

We also want more info on the hemp source and processing.
