CBDNorth Overview
CBDNorth is an unlicensed Canadian CBD brand based in Vancouver. It’s arguably the most popular CBD vendor outside of the established provincial cannabis stores, offering a full variety of full-spectrum and pure CBD products made with organic ingredients.
CBDNorth has a 45% discount to low-income households, people with long-term disability, teachers, veterans, seniors, post-secondary students, and anyone else with a critical financial or medical need. You can apply if interested.
Keep in mind that CBDNorth only accepts payment through e-transfer.
LP vs Unlicensed CBD Products
Unlicensed CBD vendors exist outside the Health Canada-regulated CBD & cannabis market. Their biggest advantage is that you can ship the products anywhere in Canada. You also have access to third-party test reports and customer reviews, all of which are lacking on the official Canadian cannabis stores.
CBD Glossary
- Hemp: cannabis variety with high CBD and low THC levels (no more than 0.3%).
- Terpenes: aromatic plant compounds with various beneficial effects (1).
- Minor cannabinoids: CBN, CBG, CBC, and other beneficial cannabinoids found in smaller amounts in hemp. They work in synergy with CBD.
- Full-spectrum: whole-plant hemp extract containing multiple cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. This form of CBD is about four times more potent than pure CBD (2).
- Broad-spectrum: whole-plant hemp extract similar to full-spectrum CBD, but with THC removed (may contain trace amounts).
- CBD isolate: pure CBD without any other hemp compounds.
CBDNorth CBD Product Lineup
CBDNorth sells isolate and full-spectrum CBD oil, CBN oil for sleep, gummies, balms and rollers, and pet products (tinctures and treats for dogs and cats). For this review, I tried out their full-spectrum and isolate CBD oil, CBN oil, gummies, mints, roller, and two types of balms.
CBD Oil
CBD Potency | 16.7-66.7 mg/ml |
Volume | 30-50 ml |
Total cannabinoids | 500-2000 mg |
Cost per mg | $0.06–0.13 |
Type | Full-spectrum & isolate |
Third-Party Test | View report |
CBDNorth’s CBD oil comes in pure CBD (isolate) and full-spectrum varieties and several strengths. The full-spectrum version is one of the best CBD oils in Canada thanks to its very high minor cannabinoid content (over 30%). But I’d like to see higher strengths added, like 100+mg/ml.
My experience: I tested the 2000 mg full-spectrum CBD tincture, taking two full droppers (80 mg) at once. I felt relaxing and calming effects after 30 minutes, which persisted for several hours. This is my favourite CBDNorth product because of the high CBDV/minor cannabinoid content.
CBN Oil
CBD Potency | 40-48 mg/ml |
Volume | 30-50 ml |
Total cannabinoids | 1200-2400 mg |
Cost per mg | $0.08–0.10 |
Type | Full-spectrum |

This tincture contains 30-60 mg CBD with 10-20 mg cannabinol (CBN), the cannabinoid used to improve sleep. It also carries 3 mg of melatonin per dose (1ml) for added sleep benefits.
My experience: I took a full dropper before bed for several nights. I noticed that I fell asleep quicker and slept deeper on the days I took it and didn’t experience any morning grogginess.
CBD Gummies
Potency | 20 mg |
Gummy Count | 15-30 |
Total Cannabinoids | 300-600 mg |
Cost per mg | $0.09-0.10 |
Type | Isolate |
Varieties | 3 |

CBDnorth’s gummies contain 20 mg of pure CBD and come in assorted flavours and three varieties: regular gummy bears, berries, and sour berry. They’re made with organic, non-artificial ingredients.
My experience: I took 5-6 gummies at a time alongside fatty foods for improved absorption. The gummies tasted delicious and I noticed a subtle feeling of relaxation in the body and mind about 70 minutes later, lasting for a few hours. It was difficult not to eat the whole package right away.
CBD Mints
Potency | 20 mg |
Mint Count | 20 |
Total Cannabinoids | 400 mg |
Cost per mg | $0.09 |
Type | Isolate |

These straightforward CBD mints contain 20 mg of pure CBD. They’re made with organic ingredients and no artificial flavours.
My experience: The taste is just like any regular CBD mint. My brother said he felt a slight unpleasant aftertaste but I didn’t notice anything. I didn’t feel any effects because the CBD strength is pretty low.
CBD Balm
CBD Potency | 10-20 mg/ml |
Size | 60 ml |
Total CBD | 600-1200 mg |
Cost per mg CBD | $0.09 – 0.10 |
Type | Isolate |

CBDNorth’s CBD balm comes in two strengths and three scents: unscented, rose vanilla, and lavender lemongrass. They use standard balm ingredients like beeswax and shea butter, combined with pure CBD.
My experience: I tried the unscented 1200 mg balm and lavender/lemongrass 600 mg balm. The balms are greasy and the lemongrass one had a really nice scent. I applied a bunch on my sore shoulders and neck the day after a lifting session and it seemed to provide some mild relief.
CBD Pain Roller
CBD Potency | 5.5-67 mg/ml |
Size | 10 ml |
Total CBD | 400 mg |
Cost per mg CBD | $0.11 |
Type | Isolate |

This convenient roller combines 400 mg of pure CBD with menthol, camphor and other natural herbs for topical pain relief.
My experience: I mostly used this roller on my neck, shoulders, and knees to relieve soreness from working out and sitting for long periods. It has a refreshing peppermint scent and provides noticeable cooling and warming relief. Thanks to its small size, it’s easy to apply with the roller and take on the go.
CBD Oil for Cats & Dogs
CBD Potency | 8-33 mg/dose |
Volume | 30 ml |
Total cannabinoids | 250-1000 mg |
Cost per mg | $0.10–0.14 |
Type | isolate |

These oils are flavoured with salmon oil (which contains beneficial omega-3s) and come in strengths designed specifically for dogs and cats. The dog version is available in 500 mg and 1000 mg strengths for different dog breed sizes, and the cat one in 250 mg. I’d prefer to see full-spectrum CBD instead of isolate.
Pet Treats
Potency | 3-10 mg |
Treat Count | 46-65 |
Total THC | 195-650 mg |
Cost per mg | $0.12–0.21 |
Type | isolate |

Like the oils, these treats come in a version for dogs (10 mg per piece) and cats (3 mg per piece). You can choose from fresh pumpkin, Canadian beef liver, chicken, and turkey flavours. They’re made with standard, clean ingredients like freeze-dried turkey. Again, it would be nice if they were made with full-spectrum CBD instead of isolate.
Price & Value
The easiest way to compare the value of CBD products is to divide the total cost by the amount of CBD. For example, if you have a 1500 mg CBD oil that costs $100, its price per milligram (mg) of CBD would be 100/1500 = $0.07.
You also have to consider that the prices vary by product type.
Here’s a breakdown of CBDNorth CBD’s prices:
- CBD oil: 6-13 cents per mg of CBD
- CBD gummies: 9-10 cents per mg
- CBD topicals: 9-11 cents per mg
- CBD pet products: 10-21 cents per mg of CBD
These prices are about average for the Canadian CBD market and a little above the licensed producer (LP) prices you’d find at the official provincial cannabis stores.
Having said that, CBDNorth has an inclusive CBD assistance program with a 45% discount for many groups and urges anyone in need to apply. Overall, you’re getting decent value.
Hemp Source and Production Process
CBDNorth uses USDA-certified organic hemp that’s extracted with carbon dioxide (CO2) for the isolate, and ethanol extraction for the full-spectrum CBD extract. The products are manufactured in its BC facility using these CBD extracts and other organic ingredients like MCT oil.
Third-Party Testing
CBDNorth sends its products for third-party testing to Canvas Labs, an independent cannabis testing lab based in Vancouver, British Columbia. These tests look for contaminants and check the levels of CBD and other cannabinoids. All of the test results are available on CBDNorth’s lab reports page.
Third-Party Test Results
I always look at third-party lab test results to confirm that CBD companies sell safe, accurate, and effective products. Specifically, I check:
- The cannabinoid content, which should be within 10% of the label (3)
- The levels of THC and minor cannabinoids like CBG and CBN
- The terpene content (if tested)
- Whether the CBD type (full, broad-spectrum, or isolate) is accurate
- Whether there are any contaminants
I checked the latest certificates of analysis (CoA) for all of CBDNorth’s products.
One downside is that CBDNorth only tests the raw extracts (full-spectrum, isolate, and CBN). In comparison, most CBD brands test the finished CBD product, which is better because we can see if the CBD content matches what it says on the label. Also, the tests are a bit outdated.
Having said that, the test results are solid, showing impressive minor cannabinoid levels for the full-spectrum extract. I added a screenshot of the full-spectrum CBD report to give you more details:
- The test found 32.6% minor cannabinoids, which is one of the highest percentages I’ve ever seen out of dozens of brands, including American ones. This is very good because more minor cannabinoids mean greater effects and benefits.
- The test found 0.98% THC in total, which confirms this is a proper full-spectrum extract. But this is much higher than the typical 0.3% found in American CBD products, so that is something to keep in mind. It’s easier to accidentally get high with this higher THC content.
- The test didn’t find any contaminants (pesticides, mould, heavy metals, etc).
Overall, CBDNorth can improve by testing individual products instead of the raw extract and adding newer tests. But the current tests are enough to prove its products are safe and effective.
Shipping & Returns
CBDNorth ships throughout Canada with 2-5 business days estimated delivery, with free shipping on orders over $99 (Canada Post Xpresspost). This is one of its main advantages over regulated cannabis stores, which can only ship within a single province and tend to have slower delivery times.
CBDNorth offers refunds minus the cost of shipping within 30 days of purchase, although it’s up to their discretion.
Customer Service & Reputation
CBDNorth has over 10,000 customer reviews on its website, which is quite impressive. They also donate money to several charitable organizations, including Food Banks Canada and the Canadian Red Cross, which is great to see.
It would be nice to have a bit more transparency about the company, but it’s understandable given that it works outside the established Canadian CBD market.
My Verdict: Solid CBD Brand for Canadians
CBDNorth is an all-around solid vendor. The products I tested had decent effects and I like the variety. It’s nice to have an alternative to the licensed cannabis market, especially for difficult-to-find options like pet CBD oil and provinces that don’t have many options for licensed CBD products.
Also, I like that many people can qualify for the 45% discount, making the products almost twice as cheap.
Having said that, there is room to improve. I’d like to see full-spectrum CBD formulas used for more products and higher potency CBD oils. It would also be nice to have independent testing for individual products instead of just the extract.
