CBDMagic Overview

CBDMagic is an unlicensed Canadian CBD brand based in Richmond Hill, Ontario. It offers a full range of full-spectrum and THC-free CBD products, including oils, capsules, gummies, topicals, and pet options in multiple strengths.

The company provides complete, up-to-date third-party test results to verify the accuracy and purity of its CBD products. Alongside CBDNorth, it’s the most established CBD vendor outside of the official provincial cannabis stores.

LP vs Unlicensed CBD Products

Unlicensed CBD vendors operate outside the Health Canada-regulated CBD & cannabis market. They have several advantages over the official provincial cannabis stores, including the availability of high-potency products, Canada-wide shipping, third-party test results, and customer reviews.

CBD Glossary

  • Hemp: cannabis variety with high CBD and low THC levels (no more than 0.3%).
  • Terpenes: aromatic plant compounds with various beneficial effects (1).
  • Minor cannabinoids: CBN, CBG, CBC, and other beneficial cannabinoids found in smaller amounts in hemp. They work in synergy with CBD.
  • Full-spectrum: whole-plant hemp extract containing multiple cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. This form of CBD is about four times more potent than pure CBD (2).
  • Broad-spectrum: whole-plant hemp extract similar to full-spectrum CBD, but with THC removed (may contain trace amounts).
  • CBD isolate: pure CBD without any other hemp compounds.

CBDMagic CBD Product Lineup

CBDMagic has a diverse lineup of CBD products in full-spectrum and THC-free formulas, including oils, gummies, capsules, vapes, topicals, and bath bombs. For my review, I bought the CBD+CBG vape, 2000 mg full-spectrum CBD oil, and 1800 mg CBD+CBN sleep gummies.

CBDMagic’s CBD oils come in all three types: full-spectrum, broad-spectrum (THC-free), and pure CBD. You can pick from natural and peppermint flavours. There are also two special formulas:

  • Water-soluble CBD tincture that you can add to drinks
  • Full-spectrum Plus, formulas with added active ingredients like curcumin for pain, CBN with melatonin for sleep, and chamomile with lavender for relaxation

The full-spectrum oils have impressive minor cannabinoid content (~24%), some of the highest I’ve seen from any brand. Similarly, the broad-spectrum oils have ~14.5%.

My experience: I tested the 2000 mg full-spectrum CBD oil, taking a full dropper (~67mg CBD) during the day. I felt relaxing and calming effects after about 30 minutes, which persisted for a few hours. The tincture tastes quite strong because it uses hemp seed oil with MCT oil as a carrier oil.

CBDMagic’s capsules come in full-spectrum and pure CBD varieties and many strength options. There’s also a water-soluble formula similar to the CBD oil, and a libido booster formula with maca root and ginseng.

CBDMagic’s gummies come in pure and full-spectrum varieties. There are 3 formulas: regular, sleep (with added CBN and melatonin), and pain (with added CBG), which come in several strengths. These gummies are made with gelatin and natural flavouring and are coated with sugar.

My experience: I tried the 1800 mg sleep gummies, taking 1-2 pieces an hour before bed several times. The gummies did help me sleep deeper, but the blueberry taste was a little weird. I’d also prefer less or no sugar coating.

CBD Vapes

These are my favorite Canadian CBD vapes. Unlike most vapes, they’re made with full-spectrum CBD and come in three formulas:

  1. Regular full-spectrum CBD
  2. Full-spectrum CBD + CBG for pain
  3. Full-spectrum CBD + CBN for sleep

Each vape is free of VG/PG and infused with different terpene flavours. The third-party tests confirm these vapes contain the advertised full-spectrum mix of cannabinoids.

My experience: I bought the CBD+CBG vape. It was easy to draw and had a natural hemp flower taste I’m used to with quality full-spectrum CBD vapes. Within a few puffs, I felt more relaxed, uplifted, and a bit more energetic and motivated. The vape is compact and feels nice to hold. I used it during the day to help me be more productive and it worked great for that.

CBD Topicals

CBDMagic offers several topical products:

  1. Full-spectrum pain cream in 3 strengths (500, 2000, 4000 mg)
  2. Pure CBD salve in regular and peppermint formulas
  3. Skin CBD balm
  4. CBD libido massage oil
  5. CBD castor oil
  6. CBD bath bombs (200 mg each) in four formulas

I like the variety and high strength options.

CBDMagic also sells CBD oil for cats and dogs in multiple strengths so you can match your pet’s size to the right one. Both pure CBD and full-spectrum formulas are available, as well as natural, salmon, and bacon flavours. There are also full-spectrum CBD treats for both dogs and cats. I like the variety and use of full-spectrum CBD.

Price & Value

The easiest way to compare the value of CBD products is to divide the total cost by the amount of CBD. For example, if you have a 1500 mg CBD oil that costs $100, its price per milligram (mg) of CBD would be 100/1500 = $0.07.

You also have to consider that the prices vary by product type.

Here’s a breakdown of CBDMagic CBD’s prices:

  • CBD oil: 6-20 cents per mg of CBD
  • CBD gummies: 6-13 cents per mg
  • CBD capsules: 6-17 mg per mg
  • CBD vapes: 5-6 cents per mg of CBD
  • CBD topicals: 6-16 cents per mg
  • CBD for pets: 6-20 cents per mg

That’s pretty average for the Canadian CBD market and a bit pricier than most licensed producer (LP) CBD products. The only exception is the CBD vapes, which are fairly cheap. You can also get 25% off by subscribing to monthly deliveries.

All in all, the value is fairly average, but you do get a great deal on CBD vapes. I’d like to see CBDMagic add a discount program for Canadians in need, like people with long-term disability and low-income households.

Hemp Source and Production Process

According to CBDmagic, it sources its CBD from Canada. The hemp it uses is extracted with ethanol, one of the two most common CBD extraction methods.

CBDMagic makes its products in a certified Canadian lab facility. CBDmagic also claims to hold a hemp license from Health Canada, but we’d like to see a document verifying this. Aside from that, not many details are provided. It would be nice to know where the hemp comes from.

Third-Party Testing

CBDMagic sends its products for testing to Canvas Labs, an independent cannabis testing lab in Vancouver, British Columbia. These tests look for contaminants and check the levels of CBD and other cannabinoids. The latest test results are attached to each product page.

Third-Party Test Results

I always look at third-party lab test results to confirm that CBD companies sell safe, accurate, and effective products. Specifically, I check:

  • The cannabinoid content, which should be within 10% of the label (3)
  • The levels of THC and minor cannabinoids like CBG and CBN
  • The terpene content (if tested)
  • Whether the CBD type (full, broad-spectrum, or isolate) is accurate
  • Whether there are any contaminants

I checked the latest certificate of analysis (CoA) reports for all of CBDMagic’s products. The tests are accurate, up to date, and show mostly good minor cannabinoid levels.

I did find a few shortcomings, though:

  1. Some of the full-spectrum gummies have less CBD than advertised (~95 mg instead of ~120 mg)
  2. A few products are low in minor cannabinoids
  3. The full-spectrum capsules are missing CoAs

I added a screenshot of the tests for two products to give you a closer look:

  1. The test for the 1000 mg full-spectrum CBD oil found ~1061.7 mg of CBD, which is fairly accurate (only 6% higher). The test also detected 23.6% minor cannabinoids, which is impressive, but most of that comes from CBDV; it would be better if it was more evenly spread out among multiple cannabinoids.
  2. The test for the CBD relief vape (500 mg CBD+350 mg CBG) found 587.8 mg CBD and 301.3 mg CBG, which is pretty accurate. The test also detected THC and other minor cannabinoids, confirming this is a full-spectrum product.

In summary, CBDMagic’s test results are quite good but there is room to improve.

Shipping & Returns

CBDMagic has free Canadian shipping on all orders. You can request a full refund within 30 days of purchase if you’re not satisfied, but you do have to return the product and pay return shipping costs.

Customer Service & Reputation

Like most unlicensed Canadian CBD vendors, CBDMagic doesn’t reveal a whole lot about itself. All that we know is the company was founded by a chemist with over 20 years of experience, presumably in cannabis extraction or product formulation.

But it does have pretty good feedback on the independent review site Trustpilot: 4.3 out of 5 on average with over 1,300 customer reviews

My Verdict: Great Option for Canadians

If you’re looking for Canada-made CBD products, CBGMagic is a solid vendor.

In particular, they’re a great choice for high-potency gummies & oils, CBD vapes, and pet products, because the options for these are limited in the licensed producer (LP) provincial market. The prices are also reasonable and shipping was pretty fast.

But CBDMagic can improve in transparency. I’d like to see more information about their hemp source and original third-party test documents (not just summaries). It would also be nice to see a discount/assistance program added for folks in need.
