Although low-dose CBD products are legal in Australian pharmacies, you won’t be able to access them until they’re approved. If you want to buy hemp-derived CBD gummies, the only real options are to get a prescription or shop online.
But most CBD brands don’t ship to Australia. On top of that, it’s not easy to find reputable options with quality gummies backed by third-party tests. To help your search, I tried and compared over a dozen hemp gummy products from international CBD vendors.
Here are the three best options I found.

- Hemp: cannabis variety with high CBD and low THC levels (no more than 0.3%).
- Terpenes: aromatic plant compounds with various beneficial effects (1).
- Minor cannabinoids: CBN, CBG, CBC, and other beneficial cannabinoids found in smaller amounts in hemp. They work in synergy with CBD.
- Full-spectrum: whole-plant hemp extract containing multiple cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. This form of CBD is about four times more potent than pure CBD (2).
- Broad-spectrum: whole-plant hemp extract similar to full-spectrum CBD, but with THC removed (may contain trace amounts).

Pros:
- Strongest CBD gummies in Australia
- Comprehensive third-party testing
- Four formulas
- High-quality ingredients
Cons:
- Pricey shipping
My top pick for CBD gummies in Australia is R&R. Its gummies are made with full-spectrum CBD, which is more effective than pure CBD isolate. They come in four impressive formulas:
- Full and broad-spectrum CBD gummies. They come in a 90 mg potency, which are by far the strongest CBD gummies available in Australia.
- Sleep gummies with 30 mg CBD + 5 mg CBN, l-theanine, and ashwagandha.
- Pain gummies with 30 mg CBD + 5 mg CBG + herbal extracts, which are great for pain relief.
- De-stress gummies with 30 mg CBD, 2.5 mg CBN, 2.5 mg CBG, and calming herbs, great for anxiety and stress.
Better yet, they’re sourced from USDA-certified organic hemp and certified by the US Hemp Authority. The gummies are made with premium, natural ingredients like tapioca syrup and come in various flavors.
Our experience: I tried the regular 30 mg CBD gummies, which were some of the tastiest I’ve tried. When I took a few pieces, I could feel relaxing and uplifting effects for several hours. Meanwhile, Antonio tested the pain and de-stress gummies: When taking one destress gummy, he noticed mild relaxation, which was stronger when taking 2-3 gummies at a time. Meanwhile, taking 2-3 pain gummies after two 5km training runs helped him manage knee pain and inflammation.

Pros:
- Multi-ingredient sleep formula
- Full-spectrum CBD
- Natural, quality ingredients
Cons:
- Pricey shipping
If you’re looking specifically for the best CBD gummies for sleep in Australia, R&R is again the best pick. Its sleep gummies have added cannabinol (CBN), the minor cannabinoid that helps promote sleep.
They also have two more ingredients to help you wind down and relax for bed: L-theanine from tea and ashwagandha, a popular herbal supplement.
Antonio’s experience: I love R&R’s sleep gummies! They’re vegan, use natural ingredients, and have a great blueberry flavor (though the sugar coating feels unnecessary). These gummies worked well—I felt relaxed with one and slept even better with two, staying asleep all night.

Extract Labs is a great pick for delta-9 THC gummies in Australia and other minor cannabinoid formulas like CBN, CBG, and even THCV. Their lineup includes:
- 10 mg delta-9 THC + 10 mg CBD gummies for a relaxing, euphoric high
- Delta-8 THC gummies (a milder form of THC)
- CBG gummies (ideal for daytime use)
- CBN gummies (ideal for sleep)
- THCV gummies (for weight loss and energy)
These gummies are made with natural, organic ingredients and come in a variety of flavors. Extract Labs is a reputable vendor founded in 2016 by an American veteran.
How I Chose These CBD Gummies
I’ve tested dozens of CBD gummies from various Canadian, American, and European brands. Starting with this list, I narrowed it down to the companies that ship to Australia. Next, I chose the four best options based on the following:
- Effects: After experimenting with numerous CBD gummies, I exclusively go for those that have the greatest, most potent effects.
- Third-party testing: Done by independent labs, these examinations check the amounts of CBD, other cannabinoids, and impurities, guaranteeing that the gummies accurately reflect the label. I always review the test results to confirm that they align with the advertised claims.
- Type of CBD: I prefer full-spectrum CBD gummies because they may offer more potent effects thanks to containing many other beneficial compounds. But I also suggest broad-spectrum and CBD isolate alternatives.
- Potency: To get the most out of my money, I favour high-potency gummies. These offer superior value, affordability, and convenience for novice and experienced users alike.
- Hemp source: I prefer companies that grow and extract their own hemp because that means better product quality and consistency.
- Company reputation: Reputable companies are backed by positive customer reviews and are transparent about their production process, mission, and other helpful disclosures.
- Price: By breaking down the cost of CBD gummies into cents per mg, I simplify the process of comparing prices and seeing if the cost is fair. I also look for promotions such as free shipping and other discounts to help you save more.

Is CBD Legal in Australia?
Yes, but it’s not that simple. In December 2020, Australia’s regulatory health authority, the TGA, legalized low-dose (up to 150 mg/day) CBD products at pharmacies. That means you can buy them without a prescription.
But there’s a catch: these products must first be approved. They might not be available until 2024 or later. So, even though CBD products are now legal in Australia, you can’t get them quite yet.
Another limitation is that they must contain at least 98% CBD. So other beneficial hemp cannabinoids may have to be removed from full-spectrum products, making them less potent.
How to Buy CBD Gummies in Australia
There are three ways to buy CBD products in Australia:
- Over-the-counter at pharmacies (not available yet)
- A prescription from a doctor
- Online from international CBD brands
Low-dose CBD products became legal over-the-counter in Australian pharmacies in 2020 but won’t be available until at least late 2023.
You can also access CBD products with a doctor’s prescription through the Special Access Scheme (SAS) system, but that takes time, meeting eligibility criteria, and often additional costs for consultation.
The last and simplest option is to buy CBD gummies from international brands that ship to Australia. You can either buy directly from the brand or use a mail-forwarding service. The main downside of shopping online is that it’s not exactly allowed, so there’s a small risk of having your product seized at the border.
History of CBD Laws in Australia
CBD’s legal status in Australia is linked to cannabis. Australian states started banning cannabis in the 1920s and 1930s, much like the U.S. did during the 20th century.
In 2016, Australia legalized medical cannabis, including CBD. So, with a doctor’s note, people could get CBD. But, using cannabis and CBD recreationally is still illegal. The only exception is the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), which legalized cannabis in 2019.
Finally, in 2020, the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) legalized low-dose CBD products at pharmacies.
However, it’ll be some years before Australians can buy CBD without a prescription because of a long approval process. We’ll have to wait until at least 2024 before these products become available.
